News You May Have Missed
I'm taking a diversion from news from the Finnish front to post some significant web pages and news stories that I came across during the last two months.
- The top ten science stories of 2006. I especially like the story of the fossil fish that fills a gap between sea and land animals.
- Oil companies have been limiting the supply of oil since 1999 to raise the price of gas.
- "The United States offers some of the most lucrative incentives in the world to companies that drill for oil in publicly owned coastal waters, but . . . the government is getting very little for its money.
- The European Union Parliament approved a plan to boost science research by 40%. What did the U.S. Congress do for science this year?
- How right-wing mind control works.

The right has already started in on Obama. In a nationally syndicated column this week about Washington malfeasance by Judicial Watch, a conservative "nonpartisan" group of journalists, the #1 offender cited was Abramson, #2 was Clinton, and at the bottom of the article was a short list of other miscreants, including Obama.
